How to migrate from Access Dimensions to Xero

Migrating from Access Dimensions to Xero typically involves several key stages to ensure the financial data remains accurate and fully reconciled.

1. Data discovery and review
The first step is analysing how the data is structured in Access Dimensions. This includes reviewing the chart of accounts, transaction volumes, historical reporting requirements, and any export limitations.

2. Extracting historical data from Access Dimensions
Data is exported from Access Dimensions, including trial balances, general ledger transactions, customer and supplier balances, and VAT information.

3. Data restructuring for Xero
Because Xero uses a different accounting structure, the chart of accounts and reporting structure often need to be mapped and adjusted before import.

4. Importing transactions into Xero
Historical transactions are imported into Xero, ensuring that balances reconcile with the original system.

5. Reconciliation and validation

few limitations and things to be aware of:

While basic financial information will be migrated, detailed stock and inventory levels are not transferred. You may need to manually adjust stock or use third-party tools to import inventory data.

The audit trail, notes, or detailed transaction comments are not migrated. You may need to manually archive or reference these from your system if required.
